EQR Headquarters in Millersville, MD
On Saturday, February 11th EQR will celebrate our third year at our headquarters in Millersville, Maryland! EQR has been a leader in the environmental construction industry in our region for over 25 years and in honor of our growing company, we would love to share a brief history of our company and our expansion over the years.

Carter McCamy, COO and Founder of EQR
It all starts with Carter McCamy who is the founder of Environmental Quality Resources or EQR. Carter got his degree in Conservation and Resource Management from the University of Maryland and spent 14 years building luxury homes and developing large parcels of land. Soon, much of his time was spent on working with regulators and engineers on methods and materials to improve the design of storm water management systems and how to implement native system restoration. That’s when, on November 1, 1991 Carter McCamy decided to start a construction company in Silver Spring, Maryland that was dedicated to environmental construction. As the company grew, Carter added more management staff including Mike Farley (1993), Rick Scaffidi (1994), Joy Owen (1995), Daniel Brown (1996), Chris Choppin (1997), and Ken Williams (1998) who are all still with us to this day!

As the office in Silver Spring got crowded, Carter decided it was time to move. In 1998 the office moved to Green Farm in Gaithersburg, Maryland and spent 10 years there. As the company grew, we brought in new employees, eventually growing to a staff of 100. These new employees helped to develop our field techniques, setting the standards for our industry. In the end….we needed a bigger place.

EQR Headquarters in Arbutus, Maryland
That’s when in July 2007, EQR moved to Arbutus, Maryland. There, EQR designed and developed the property to provide a facility that could meet the wide range of needs that EQR had. Though there were some rough times during the recession, EQR work tirelessly to keep the company going and we succeeded!

Fast forward to January 1, 2014 when Carter decided to sell his shares of EQR to Reliable Contracting. This change brought in the financial stability and knowledge of a very large construction company needed to meet our potential growth curve. On February 11, 2014, we moved into our home in Millersville where we have been for almost three years while also expanding our offices to Richmond, VA! We are close to 250 people strong and each individual in this wonderful company brings in their own unique services that meets our demanding goals and shares our passion for the environment. Together, with our senior management team, office staff, equipment management group and our great field team, we will continue to grow as a company and as a leader in our field.
