EQR has been “A Real Force for Nature” for over 25 years in our work for improving our watershed and ecosystem not only in Maryland but in multiple locations across the country. In that respect, EQR has started a Sustainability Circle to help to create actionable items to maintain an environmentally sustainable company. We have already made strides to create a more sustainable office but, we want to do more!
For those of you who don’t know what a Sustainability Circle is, the definition is: The long-term improvement of our work guided by the 3 pillars of sustainability, which are:
Social
Environmental
Economic
Our Sustainability Circle group met today led by our President, Liam O’Meara and Alicia Roberson, our Sustainability Circle Leader who led a sustainability task force at the University of Maryland. Our goal today was to discuss our ideas for a more environmentally sustainable company, in the field and at headquarters. Having achievable goals is our intention and while we know we can’t do them all, by slowly implementing small ideas we hope to create a positive change in how our company effects the environment. Some ideas that were brought up in the meeting were using reusable containers, utensils or coffee cups for our office employees, as well as to reduce the use of plastic water bottles in the field while setting up recycling bins on job sites to reduce waste. These ideas will help us to our goal to be an more environmentally sustainable company and improve our carbon footprint.
The ideas that have been discussed during this meeting will be presented to management by the end of March and then we will start implementing our approved ideas by April! In the weeks to follow we will keep you updated on the improvements we will be making to our company to make ourselves a more environmentally sustainable office.
