EQR celebrated the successful completion of the Nash Run Stream Restoration with a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 3, 2016. The DC Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) invited local residents and EQR employees to the ceremony. The Nash Run stream is located in parts of Prince George’s County and Kenilworth Avenue, of which is enclosed in a pipe, but 75% of the its watershed is located in northeast Washington, D.C. The stream was susceptible to trash build up due to its urbanized location and impervious qualities. Moderate or severe rain events would cause trash to pile up in the stream despite previously installed litter traps and community cleaning efforts. This negatively impacted the overall health of the stream and its wildlife. Residents near Nash Run were adamant in their push for D.C. to design a structure to capture the trash before it washed downstream. Thanks to their tireless efforts, EQR was contracted to restore the stream and install a bandalong litter trap to capture any floating trash before it travels downstream.
