A stream EQR is schedule to begin work on soon, the Jones Falls, was recently featured in the Baltimore Sun.

EQR was selected to perform stream restoration to support the brown trout population and reduce pollution in the river. The project will include the removal of a 30 year old concrete wall that was placed to reduce flooding in the area. The wall aided in reducing the brown trout population, which was too large for the fish to pass through. The decline in brown trout population was also an indicator that the stream water was too warm; the warmer water is one effect of increased urbanization. Over the years, the natural marble and limestone at the bottom of the river has kept the water cooler which is why the brown trout were able to thrive. The brown trout are originally native to Europe; they have thrived in Maryland waters mostly because they are large and more resistant to disease. The brown trout population declined throughout the 1990's so their reappearance is a good indication of healthier water. The removal of the concrete wall will also help clean up water in the Baltimore Harbor. In addition to improving the overall health of the river, the public will have access to recreational finishing when the project is completed.
